Upon graduation from Texas A&M University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mr. Cavazos was commissioned in the Regular U.S. Army. He spent five years on active duty in the Field Artillery and Quartermaster Corp and twenty-three years in the U.S. Army Reserves retiring in 2003. He worked for Gulf Oil and Chevron from 1980-2015 as a Petroleum Engineer and various other positions in safety, environmental, Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion before retiring in 2015 after 35 years. In his volunteer community engagement, he has been involved in his neighborhood community basketball league, Chevron volunteer programs such as Neighborhood Center Inc, serves on the Board of LSVA, volunteers at the Houston Food bank, is on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Speakers Committee, and is on the Caring AGGIES Mentoring Program (CAMP) that helps mentor minority 3rd-7th grade children once a month.
