LSVA builds the community of veterans by advancing careers and strengthening families. We are working on expanding our family programming for veteran families so that Texas is the best place for veterans to live. We want to make sure that when you're looking for fun, positive, and inclusive family activities you find a strong veteran community.
Create a fun, casual, & supportive atmosphere for veteran spouses.
LSVA has succeeded at building the veteran community because all of our members have a shared military experience that makes it easier to talk openly about the good and bad things in our lives. Our military and veteran spouses need the same opportunity to gather and discuss what is going on in their lives with others who have those shared experiences.
Our Spouses group offers fun, positive, and inclusive activities that are kid friendly. These events allow parents to get out of the house, let the kids burn off some energy with other kids, and be able to relax with other parents.
Bridge the gap between the veteran and LGBT communities, while making a positive impact in the external community.
Lone Star Veterans Association's mission is to build the community of veterans by advancing careers and strengthening families. We do that through fun, positive, and inclusive events that bring veterans and their families together. Due to responses from member surveys over the past two years and the lack of current events targeting the LGBT community we re-launched our LGBT Veterans social in 2017. This has been one of our fastest growing groups and one of our most supportive in terms of volunteering for all LSVA events.
Connecting veterans and civilians to experience their Christian faith journey together
When we first looked at bringing a faith based group together for our members we thought we'd do an all faith group. After surveying our members the response was overwhelming, they only wanted a christian group. As we surveyed the Greater Houston area we found no programs existing that are tailored for successful veterans, only for substance abuse and suicide intervention. So we went out to find a great community partner that could help us tell inspiring stories of our members successful use of their faith. We did not want to reinvent the wheel but instead wanted to launch the group in 2017, and found CRU (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ). Together we've adopted their format for a professional christian luncheon that relies on testimony from successful Christians.
We have focused our discussions on stories of faith and service. These are meant to inspire, inform, and renew our collective faith as we hear from veterans how their faith has influenced their military service, and vice versa. This is also a great way for civilians who might not know many or any veterans to hear a message of Christian faith that they can relate to and in doing so bridge the gap between civilians and veterans.
The Eagle Scout Veterans is a community for any and all individuals who believe in a lifetime of public service for themselves and their families. Eagle Scouts exist in too many Houston organizations to name, and the number of Eagle Scouts that also served in the military is incredible…though not surprising.
If you want to connect with other service-committed Houstonians—men and women, Eagle or not, Scout or not—we invite you to join us at our launch event.
All food and bingo prizes will be provided by US Family Health Plan at Christus Health. You can view their website at: www.christushealthplan.org and they will be at the event to answer all of your questions.
We will also have hamburgers and hot dogs for those who do not like mud bugs!
