John “Spike” Garcia retired after 27 years of honorable service with the US Air Force at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He served in various capacities including Chief Airfield Manager, Flight Scheduling Non-Commissioned Officer in charge, Senior Enlisted Advisory Council member, Squadron Superintendent and deployed Operations Group Non-Commissioned officer in charge. John supported numerous missions that include Operation Coronet Nighthawk, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH, and two deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. While deployed he skillfully scheduled over 980 sorties and over 3700 flight hours for the 332nd Air Expeditionary Fighter Squadron in Balad, Iraq. In addition to his normal duties, Sgt Garcia spent countless hours volunteering at the Air Force Theater Hospital helping fellow American service members and local Iraqi citizens. Stateside, Sgt Garcia has supported over a dozen natural disaster relief efforts to include Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike.
Sgt Garcia selflessly volunteers his time for numerous charities and organizations within the community. He is a member of the Lone Star Veterans Association, the Armed Forces Appreciation Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Houston Military Affairs Committee, US Congressman Ted Poe’s US Service Academy Nomination Panel to name a few.
Sgt Garcia has received countless accolades and awards including an Air Force One Support presentation from President George W. Bush. The Special Certificate of Congressional Recognition from US Congressman Ted Poe. He was selected as the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for the State of Texas, the Minuteman of the Year Award, the Commander’s Award, Meritorious Service medal, the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal and numerous other awards from state and local elected officials.
John Garcia is a Project Manager in Subsea Services in the Western Region and has been with FMC Technologies for over 2 years.
