Careers Program Calendar

Our flagship event Lone Star Veterans Association is our Warrior for Life luncheon series. This program is based on the Marine for Life luncheons that were once sponsored and held via the Marine for Life – Houston, TX office. The program event provides a unique and more intimate platform in which to introduce employer and prospective veteran job seeker to one another. The level success that has been achieved since taking it over in 2010 demonstrates the value that both employers and veterans alike gain from the program’s distinctive platform.

Warrior for Life Every 3rd Thursday of the month, veterans and employers meet at Masraff's restaurant, in Galleria/Uptown Houston. This luncheon event gives veterans access to a great network of employers and staffing agencies from the Houston area. Veterans are to dress professionally and bring their resumes. This is a great chance to learn about a wide variety of civilian careers. For employers, this is an opportunity to meet a wide variety of veterans that could be successful employees at your company.

    Veterans' Authentic Career Workshop

Veterans_Authentic_Career_Workshop.pngWe are delighted that CDR & Lone Star Veterans Association have again partnered to launch the initial Veterans' Authentic Career Workshop of 2017 - helping Veterans to zero in on their true key strengths to align with their career and educational plans.   This year's initial training session will be at Lone Star Veterans Association's Houston location on June 28th, 2017.   This is part of the "Vets Coaching Vets" initiative. The program includes:
    • CDR 3-D Suite (Character, Risk and Drivers & Rewards Assessments)
    • Half day Authentic Career Workshop for Veterans
    • Participating Veterans will be matched with a CDR Certified Executive Coach for full debrief of CDR 3-D Suite and then for career planning review after attending the Workshop on 3/9.
By attending this personalized career program, Veteran participants will leave being able to hone in on their key inherent strengths, gifts and needs to help them to make sure that their career pursuits are in line with their authentic talent and motivational interests.  Many of the current career transition programs for Veterans use styles inventories.  Instead, CDR provides a deep dive into one's authentic talent to a nuanced level for a clear and accurate career fit.

We invite companies and other interested organizations to join forces with us to make a real difference in helping Veterans to accelerate their career success and satisfaction.

Who to contact to participate or support the effort:

    Body Language Class

Nonverbal communication makes up the majority of our overall communication. At a very minimum, up to 60% of what we are saying is comes from our body language, facial expressions, and vocal tone. In this workshop we will focus on the fundamentals of body language and why you should highly start to consider it as an optimized tool to use.

What you will learn if you attend:

Why the very first seconds and ANY interaction are the most important

    • What’s in a handshake?
    • How to use your hands purposefully

What to do with your body

    • Understanding your space and others’
    • How to orient your body so that it’s authentic and respectful

A great leadership quality to have is the ability to listen

    • Two small, simple tricks that can get people talk more
    • Show empathy while actively listening

Warrior for Life - Construction Trades

     rncc.png

The Warrior for Life program is the premier professional networking event for veterans looking for a new career or advance in their current field. This event brings these veterans together with employers passionate about networking, recruiting, and hiring veterans to accelerate their companies.

This particular Warrior for Life luncheon will focus on the trades jobs that make up the bulk of construction activities. These are high demand jobs that are ideal for military veterans looking to break into a growth industry and develop a career in the construction industry.

The lunch will be in a format completely unlike a job fair. Here you will have the opportunity to meet many companies one on one over lunch to get to know personal details about the company, its culture, and what your first year looks like. All from a company employee that has done the work and been in your shoes.

Seating will be matched according to your preferences for employers committed to attending. Keep checking out this page as we will be updating it with the latest on companies that will be attending, along with their most up to date materials for candidates.
