Careers Program Calendar

Our flagship event Lone Star Veterans Association is our Warrior for Life luncheon series. This program is based on the Marine for Life luncheons that were once sponsored and held via the Marine for Life – Houston, TX office. The program event provides a unique and more intimate platform in which to introduce employer and prospective veteran job seeker to one another. The level success that has been achieved since taking it over in 2010 demonstrates the value that both employers and veterans alike gain from the program’s distinctive platform. 

Warrior for Life Every 3rd Thursday of the month, veterans and employers meet at Masraff's restaurant, in Galleria/Uptown Houston. This luncheon event gives veterans access to a great network of employers and staffing agencies from the Houston area. Veterans are to dress professionally and bring their resumes. This is a great chance to learn about a wide variety of civilian careers. For employers, this is an opportunity to meet a wide variety of veterans that could be successful employees at your company.

    Veterans' Authentic Career Workshop

    Veterans_Authentic_Career_Workshop.pngWe are delighted that CDR & Lone Star Veterans Association have again partnered to launch the initial Veterans' Authentic Career Workshop of 2017 - helping Veterans to zero in on their true key strengths to align with their career and educational plans.   This year's initial training session will be at Lone Star Veterans Association's Houston location on March 9th, 2017.   This is part of the "Vets Coaching Vets" initiative. The program includes:
    • CDR 3-D Suite (Character, Risk and Drivers & Rewards Assessments) 
    • Half day Authentic Career Workshop for Veterans
    • Participating Veterans will be matched with a CDR Certified Executive Coach for full debrief of CDR 3-D Suite and then for career planning review after attending the Workshop on 3/9. 
    By attending this personalized career program, Veteran participants will leave being able to hone in on their key inherent strengths, gifts and needs to help them to make sure that their career pursuits are in line with their authentic talent and motivational interests.  Many of the current career transition programs for Veterans use styles inventories.  Instead, CDR provides a deep dive into one's authentic talent to a nuanced level for a clear and accurate career fit.
     
    We invite companies and other interested organizations to join forces with us to make a real difference in helping Veterans to accelerate their career success and satisfaction.

Being a military veteran, you already stand out in the crowd as a resource that is sought by those companies who value excellence from their personnel. At the Warrior For Life Luncheon, you get to meet those companies, one on one.

    Designed to create direct contact between veterans and local employers, Warrior For Life provides the forum for veterans to get hired. Hosted once a month at Masraff's in the Galleria, veterans have a chance to market themselves in a professional, yet personal environment. The Lone Star Veterans Association has coordinated with local employers to emphasize a veteran hiring initiative and to introduce Warrior For Life as a resource for potential employees.

    For veterans:

    • Promptly arrive at 11:00 a.m.  This is 30 minutes earlier than employers in order to prepare for the event.
    • There is plenty of free parking. 
    • You need to have a proper and up-to-date resume/CV. 
    • You need to dress professionally. Suit and tie for men, business suit for women. If you need professional attire for the event email Connie Gray at connie@lonestarveterans.org
    • This is a professional lunch for you to talk with employers and network. It is not an event that involves family members or guests.
    • If you register for the luncheon you need to attend.  If you cannot make the luncheon, it is important that you email communications@lonestarveterans.org  or call (281)744-7972 by 10:00 AM the day prior to the luncheon.  This allows space for those veterans on the wait list. 

     

    For employers:

    • Please arrive promptly at 11:30 a.m. which is when networking begins.
